Greetings to the one of the many satellites that orbit the "web". This site was created to display the art works of Jonathan Schliessmann a senior at granite bay high school. Currently he is in art 5 and intends to make it to AP art by this year. This website is to display and show an insight into the realm of his work. This website is updated as much as possible and worked on frequently. So enjoy it won't you?

News:

12/6/08: New paintings posted under "The Citadel Ask" page and re-shoots of earlier work (primarily "Breathless Storm") have been posted in better photo quality.

10/10/08: I'm starting up on a new series titled "The Citadel Ask". 2 completed works need to be photographed still and one is well on it's way. Stay posted to see any new paintings.

7/19/08: I have a piece at the "Blue Line Gallery" at 405 Vernon Street Ste. 100, Roseville, CA 95678. "O! Rising Sea" is being displayed there through July 19th to August 29th. The theme is "Sea, Sand and Sun" and another show that is "Urban Art". Go see it.

5/3/08: I've got an art show coming up! It's starting a week from tomorrow and running for around 2 weeks. It will be placed at "Corrina's" It's a new coffee Cafe and is located 9205 Sierra College Blvd. Suite 100, Roseville, California, 95661. Brandon Mamone will also be featured in the show. Stay tuned for more updates on possible receptions, dates, etc...

4/28/08: Hello. I've completed 2 paintings that I have to post. I'd say one I feel great about. Probably my favorite so far. I'm working on another and that will be dished out soon enough. I'm working on finding an art show and will keep you updated. That is all.

3/9/08: I fixed my website so now it looks like 20 times better. I wrote new stuff about me...vain. And there are 2 new pictures under the 2008 section. Czech it out.

1/30/08: I've come up with a new series now completing my last one. This series is going to be based on...well I don't want to exactly give it away just yet. Besides I haven't thought of a sort or snappy title for it. I've started the first painting for the series and I have a pretty swell feeling about it...more to come. Also I have 2 paintings not yet posted however it may take a while to photograph them...

12/21/07: Art show be coming up. Wednesday, January 10th, at the Granite Bay High School library. The show starts at 6:30pm and 2 peices of mine will be there (and for sale). What two peices you ask? Well you'll just have to wait and see. Come and support the other 7 artists being featured. It's going to be quite happening.

"Breathless Storm"

Artist Stament:

In this series I explored the idea of endurance in conditions that are against your element. Through figures immensely smaller in scale and social caliber I experimented with their interactions with the hierarchy of their environments. They are fighting the odds and many are crippled by their boundless enemies.

I hoped to show that this ruthless “storm” can appear in any part or in any form of society be it global or residential. We constantly fight the “colossus” in our lives. We feel there is no hope but I believe if one keeps a good outlook in their existence and realize that there are some things beyond control than life can settle into a comfortable state. Free of all intimidation.

"Amputation"

Artist Statement: Amputation from something one is dependent on is a part of life we all must inevitably face. Being torn away from something you need, be it a relationship or an object is never comfortable. My work being a vessel through which I express this discomfort in change is shown through my figures and the sitautions they are casted in. Trapped in a world of fixed circumstances, dead-locked into a life where there is no safe or even a gaurenteed fall-back.

This series explores the life after the intial shock of being cut off of one's desperate needs and the uncertainess that surely follows. Abstract styles are used to personify this rocky lifestyle. The colors sway and lull the viewer into a dreamlike state. Slowly creeping into a feverish and confused passion from having nothing left.

The Artist

Artist Statement:
In my artwork I try to appeal to all aspects of life. Through my peices I try to express relationships of people on a personal basis as well as on a global scale. I think there are many ways you can relate a person's feelings to that of the whole world or a country. For this reason my artwork tends not to always just be on one specific instance but instead are based on multiple levels of mankind. I gravitate to paint man's relationship with the natural world and find this an extremely rich source of inspiration.

Inspiration:
My inspiration comes from my relationships with people and sometimes lack their of. My inspiration also comes from that of my favorite bands and of course awesome artists. Ray Troll, Edward Hopper and John Taratheef are a few of my personal favorites. They are a large source of drive for me.

About the Artist:
I live in a small hamlet a missiles throw from sacramento. I was born April 10th 1991 and from as long as I could remember have always wanted to be an artist. I loved to draw when I was a child and still do and hope to write and draw a graphic novel someday. I hope to keep up painting as I try to become a school teacher or some form (most likely english).
